Election Fever

Elections are one of the favorite events of gambling fans. Like sports, gambling players love to bet on election outcomes. Big events such as these are hard to let go for a gambling player because they only come once in a while.

Gambling on election outcomes is not a legal, or official gambling activity, that is why it is usually done among smaller groups like friends or family members. The stakes can range from serious money, or could be as simple as household chores.

In the Philippines, which is a republic, there are a lot of positions to bet on, and the top one is the presidency. It would be easier to bet on the candidates for the presidency because there will be a lot of surveys on that position. Because of these surveys, gambling players would have a better idea of the possible outcome of the elections.

But gambling players know better than to depend on these surveys alone. It is a known fact that some of these surveys are funded by the candidates themselves for the sake of campaign. That is why different surveys usually have different results.

If the surveys are not reliable enough, then, what are the other things gambling players should consider before placing their bets on the candidates?

Usually, the presidential candidate with the largest funds wins. So gambling players must know which candidate is the richest, or has the most number of rich supporters. Money plays a big role in the campaign period. More money means power to reach more people due to advertisement and out of town campaign rallies.

Aside from the president, gambling players in the Philippines may bet on other positions. Most gambling players prefer to bet on their local government - barangay captains and mayors. This is because the betting gets easier if you reduce the scale. You have more idea of who is going to win in your barangay elections since you know the people there more than you know the whole population of the Philippines. Political clans usually win in smaller-scale election, so it would be safe to bet on a candidate coming from a political family.

Election is a serious event, but it does not mean that people should not have fun while doing it. One way of having fun is through gambling on election outcomes, which has long been a practice in the Philippines. But since it is not legal yet, gambling players should be careful or they will end up in jail.
